Camassia Nature Preserve - May 2023

May is one of the best times of the year to see wildflowers in the Willamette valley. This nature preserve is one meadow (of many) that once dominated the landscape because of the land management practices of the Kalupuya tribes of the Willamette. Now only 1% of its original habitat in Oregon is intact today. Prescribed burns were/are used to remove understory shrub competition for first foods like Camas (Camassia quamash) and many more. On this day the camas was on full display along with many other amazing wildflowers!
