Broad-Leafed Stonecrop (Sedum spathulifolium)

IMG_0650.jpg

Broad-leafed stonecrop growing on some serpentine rock on Orcas island. This native plant is a hardy perennial that grows along coastal bluffs, coarse soils, and rocky outcrops. This plant is a great choice for green roofs and as an ornamental on rocky slopes. The sage colored leaves look beautiful contrasted by its yellow flowers in the spring. Its leaves change color in lower light and produce beautiful purples and reds this time of year.
